Retro is a language-learning platform provided to schools. Accounts are created by the school or the operator. This page explains, in plain terms, what data the platform processes and why. Last updated: 1 October 2026.
1. What we process
Account details: name, student number or email address, password (stored only in encrypted, one-way hashed form) and, if you add one, a profile photo. Learning data: your answers, scores, progress and last activity time. Messages between students and lecturers. Materials that lecturers upload (for example textbook PDFs) and the lessons, quizzes and activities generated from them.
2. Why
Only to run the platform: to show you your classes and materials, to grade quizzes and track progress, to give lecturers reports about their own classes, and to keep accounts secure (for example, limiting repeated failed sign-in attempts).
3. Where it is stored and who can see it
Data is stored on the cloud servers of our hosting provider (Railway). Access is limited by role: a student sees only their own data, a lecturer sees only the classes they teach, and only authorised administrators can manage accounts.
4. AI and other services
Lessons, quizzes, activities and explanations are generated with Google's AI models through the OpenRouter service. What is sent is course content and, when you ask for an explanation or look up a word, your answer or that word; names and contact details are not sent. Pronunciation audio is produced by sending the text to Google Translate. These providers may process data on servers outside Turkey. Profile photos are not sent to these services: they are checked on Retro's own server by an automatic filter for sexual content, and a lecturer can remove any student's photo in their class.
5. What we do not do
We do not sell data, show advertising or use tracking cookies. The site uses only a sign-in cookie and settings saved in your browser (such as language and theme).
6. Retention and your rights
Data is kept while your account is in use under your school's agreement and is deleted at the school's request. Under KVKK (Law No. 6698) you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal data. Accounts cannot be deleted from inside the site; please contact your school or the address below.
